REVIEW | St.Moriz Dark Self Tanning Mousse

Seriously, forget all those costly expensive self tanners. Because you can buy this beauty for £3, the only other tan I have gotten like this from a bottle is a spray tan after fishing out £25.

I am a huge fan of fake tan as when I am not tanned I am ghostly, however once I get some sun on me I do go very dark. Unfortunately in England the sun only comes out for a month or two so I am left being my pale old self for most of the year! This is why I use st.moriz, it gives you a gorgeous colour that looks super natural. Doesn't streak, and lasts at least 3/4 days with you noticing its starting to get a bit patchy - then I either just have a good scrub in the shower and take it all off OR exfoliate lightly and put on another coat!

I love St. Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse in Dark, its only £3 and I have found it cheapest in wilkinsons - click here. They also sell the matching mitt, also for £3, plus the whole St.Moriz range. The bottle contains 200ml of liquid and for £3 I think that is a bargain. Some of you might be thinking 'I'm so pale, dark will be far to dark on me!' but honestly when I use this I am practically transparant and the Dark leaves a lovely sun-kissed, natural looking, deep tan.

How I Fake Tan...

1. Shower and exfoliate your skin. I just use a body buff or exfoliating gloves (whichever is in my shower at the time). But don't leave your skin red raw it will just irritate the skin and make it uncomfortable putting the fake tan on!

2. Obviously dry yourself when getting out the shower, but I like pat myself dry to keep as much moisture in my skin as possible. I then moisturise my skin with a thick cream that will deeply moisturise everywhere, even those nasty dry bits. I use Nivea Creme, as I have sensitive skin and I have always used this when my skin is dry and I just like it.

3. I leave that to sink in for about 5 minutes, then start to apply my fake tan. I always find a mousse so much easier to apply and you don't need as much of it. I use the St. Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse in Dark. I take my mitt (I always put a rubber glove on under my mitt to limit the amount of product on your palms!) and put one full pump of the product on my mitt and just rub it in in circular motions all over my body. I find that two pumps will do one leg and one pump will do an arm so you really aren't using that much product at all because of the mousse formula. You do have to work fast as once you have put the product on the skin it sticks pretty quick.

4. After I have applied this all over my body, I double check to make sure I haven't missed anywhere. And go over any parts if I have. It then has to dry. Now, this is the one down side of this tan. It takes ages to dry completely. But you can put your clothes on pretty quick as it sticks to wear it is placed and doesn't budge, but you may feel a little sticky like with most fake tans. This is why its best to do it before you go to bed, as it will just dry as you sleep then - no fuss.

5. Showering it off. Not much actually comes off in the shower, but you just need to rub your body with your hand to make sure the excess product comes off. Just make sure you use an old towel or a dark towel, nobody wants brown stains on their towels!

6. To finish, you don't have to do this, but I take my Garnier Summerbody Moisturising Lotion - see my review here. Then apply this over the fake tan, just for some extra colour and moisture!

Tan Chart:

top left: My normal, ghostly legs!
top right: Once the tan is applied, as you can see it give them instant colour.
bottom left: Just woken up, natural lighting, you can see they're nice and brown.
bottom right: After the shower, as you can see they still have that nice golden colour.

If I was going out I would generally start 2 nights before and apply two coats just so that I look really brown and brown in pictures with the flash on! But that is just personal preference.

So what do I like about St. Moriz?
  • The Colour.
    • I think the colour that this tan gives you is great. It is so natural looking and gives you a lovely glow without making you look like an orange - never a good look.
  • The Mousse Itself.
    • It is really light and fluffy. Feels nice on the skin, it also has little gold flecks in it so it looks shimmery. But don't worry you won't look like a vampire from twilight in the end!
  • The Price
    • Three pounds. Totally wins in my books, even if I am on a budget I can look tanned all year around!
  • The Bottle
    • Both the packaging and how much you get. 200ml for £3 is a lot of product and at such great quality you can't do wrong. I also think the packaging is clean and simple, the fact that it is white is a plus so you can see if there is any tan on the bottle before you put your hand on it!
  • The Smell
    • It hasn't got like a great smell, but there is no sign of that awful biscuity nasty fake tan smell which is a huge plus!

What didn't I like about St.Moriz?

  • I actually don't have anything I dislike about this product. Maybe the fact that it goes a bit sticky before it dries completely - and that does last for a while.
I LOVE this product and think that I will always be using this as my fake tan. As long as I can get the great results for that low a price, I will never spend over that on a fake tan again! Unless someone pays for me to get a spray tan done, I should be so lucky!

I've never done a tag before, but I have been tagged twice for the 'Liebster Award Tag'. Don't worry if you have no idea what I am talking about because I had no idea either! After a bit of research I've found out that is a tag is basically to recognise new and up coming blogs - which is a great idea! But they must have under 200 followers.

1. The Liebster Award is given to bloggers by bloggers.
2. Each blogger should post 11 facts about himself / herself.
3. Each blogger should answer the 11 questions that are asked by the nominating blogger.
4. Choose 11 new bloggers to nominate for the Award and link to them in the post.
5. Create 11 new questions for your nominees.
6. Go back to their pages and tell them they’ve been nominated.
7. No tag backs.

Eleven Facts About Me!
1. I have a sick addiction to shoes, lipstick and bags.

3. I don't sleep, I am like a vampire, I just don't get tired.
4. I can be crazy messy, but I have a serious OCD for organisation, so really I'm a bit of a manic?
5. I love astrology.
6. I have spent at least 25% of my life in and out of hospital/doctors.
7. I have had the same dream of falling down the stairs for years, I'm convinced that is how I will die.

9. I love comic book films and comics.

11. I am constantly changing my hair, colour and style.

I was tagged by three bloggers, lucky me! Hannah of, Emma Martin of Glitter and Wishes & Afroditi of I obviously have three sets of questions to answer, so thank you girls!

Tag from Hannah!

1. Since you’ve started blogging, what has been your favourite thing about blogging?
Probably that I am able to just write about what I love and am interested in! It sounds so cheesy, but I want to go to university to study makeup art for fashion or film and theatre. So beauty blogging is right up my street.
2. Would you say you’re more of a high end, or high street kinda gal?
If you had asked me this about 2 years ago, I would have said 100% High End. But now I live on a much tighter budget I love my high street bargins. However, I do think that if I had the choice I'm still a High End girl at heart.
3. What’s your ultimate wardrobe staple that you think every girl should have?
I would say, either a great pair of jeans or leggings. I live in my high waisted black topshop leggings, because the material is thick and good quality they make you look slimmer and you can dress them up or down super easily! The same with a pair of good fitting jeans.
4. What is one product you wouldn’t leave the house without wearing or taking with you?
I dont actually have a product I wouldn't leave the house without wearing, as I don't have a problem with going out without makeup on. But if I had to choose it would be my Maybelline Falsies Mascara, as it just makes you look so much more awake! Taking with me? Hmm, either a lip balm or lipstick!
5. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
I would either be a professional dancer or a singer. Sadly I won't ever be able to dance again, due to my knee operation and multiple back problems but theres still time to make it as a singer - watch this space ;) haha!6. Who is your idol, someone you admire the most?
This is a hard one, but I really admire Mary-Kate & Ashley Oslen just because I grew up with watching there films and they have gone on to have successful fashion companies, without messing up there lives by turning to drugs with the pressure! So they would definitely have to be my idols.
7. Celebrity whose style you love?
I am obsessed with Kendall & Kylie Jenner. I love their style and how they throw simple outfits together but seem to make them look incredible. I also love there fashion range with PacSun! Amazing!
8. Heels or flats?
100% a heels girl! If I could wear heels all day, everyday I would. I have a ridiculous shoe addiction (heels) but I am trying to extend that to flats too!
9. Shop you can’t walk past without having to buy something?
Sounds really stupid, but Superdrug or Boots - I always end up with buying something I need to try or want! That or primark - I'm a sucker for a bargin.
10. Favourite song?
Currently its 'High For This - Ellie Goulding (The Weeknd Cover)'
11. Favourite hobby, apart from blogging?
Photography, Reading and Clubbing. I don't really have a favorite 'hobby' but I also love shopping and spending time with my friends and boyfriend!

Tag from Emma!
1. What inspired your blogs name?
The 'lashes' part: I love long lashes, fake lashes, real lashes. They are always a huge part of my makeup routine, I at least take 5 to 10 minutes making my lashes look as long as possible.
The 'splashes' part: I love experimenting with colour on my eyes, and I just thought those two words sounded cute and girly together!
2. Why did you start your blog?
Originally I wanted to start my blog so I had something to talk about in my College applications and such. But after writing a couple of blogs, I realised how much I loved blogging!
3. How young were you when you started wearing makeup?
I went to an all girls school, where makeup wasn't allowed to be worn. So they only times I'd ever wear makeup was for parties. But I would say it wasn't till I was about 14 that I wore makeup properly.
4. What's your favourite high-street brands?
Clothes: Topshop, H&M, River Island, Primark.
Shoes: Office, Aldo, Schuh
That's all I can think off the top of my head!
5. How much do you reckon you spend a month on makeup?
I'm actually really good with trying not to spend money on makeup. Note I said trying, but realisitically - anything from £10 to £50 a month.
6. What's your favourite hair style to wear daily?
usually just let it dry naturally and wear it down, or lately I've been wearing it up in a high pony tail!
7. I am a SHOEaholic
8. Hate or love Primark?
9. Fake lashes or real lashes?
I love all lashes! As long as they are long & not clumpy! But normally real for everyday & fake on a night out!
10. Do you wear makeup everyday?
No, not everyday! I have days off from wearing makeup as often as I can.
11. A funny secret...
I am still scared of the dark! I hate it.

Tag from Afroditi!
1. Who is your favorite youtube beauty guru?

Thats a tricky one as I love so many, but if I had to pick it would probably be Lauren from laurenbeautyy or Karissa saturdaynightsalrite.
2. What is your favorite foundation?
Current Favorite would have to be my FitMe Foundation by Maybelline (see my review here). But my all time favorites would have to be Mac Studio Fix, L'oreal True Match or Rimmel Stay Matte.
3. Summer or Winter?I am such a wuss in Winter, cold and I just don't mix. But I prefer Winter fashion. But I love love love Summer for the heat and how pretty everything looks - not that we have it much in England!
4. How do you start blogging?
I started blogging mainly for my college applications but I realised soon after how much I loved it and now just do it for fun.
5. What's your favorite lipstick color?
Red. I think it looks great even if you don't have any make up on! It can make you look dressed out without even trying! Then again, if all else fails a good nude lipstick will always go with any makeup look.
6: What is your dream destination?
My dream destination would probably be somewhere like California, USA just because its warm most of the time and I love America.
7. What's your all time favorite movie?
Harry Potter - every single one or Alice in Wonderland.
8. Who do you want to play Christian Grey in 50 shades of grey movie?
I actually have no idea. I didn't read the books when they were 'all the craze', I probably should though. Maybe that would be a good holiday read.
9. Say one random fact about you?
I used to bite my nails so badly, but I managed to break the habit.
10. Say one beauty thing you suck at?
I am rubbish at not rubbing my eyes when I have eyelashes on or mascara or anything on my eyes. That and
11. Are you going on holiday this year? Where?
I am, my birthday present from my boyfriend is a summer holiday! So we are going to choose one very soon and get everything booked. I think we want to go somewhere like Turkey or Morocco.

I was so excited when I got an email through from MUA saying that there are 6 new blusher shades out! I love the two shades that I have, but I fancied something a bit brighter and more fun for summer.

These blushers are so good, and they leave a gorgeous flush of colour on the cheekbone. And what I like about these new shades is that they have no shimmer and are much more matte, unlike the original £1 blushers.

I bought 'Lolly' and 'Marshmallow' as they are pretty different from any other blusher colours I have already. Lolly is a soft orange that I think will look really nice when I have tanned or am on holiday. Marshmallow is a bright pink and completely out my comfort zone, I'm not very adventurous with blusher, but for £1 I thought it would be worth trying out something new.
Marshmallow                   Lolly
Lolly [left]    Marshmallow [right]

Lolly: Soft Orange

This colour adds a really subtle glow - perfect for when you are tanned and don't want lots of colour on your cheek, It isn't as orange as it looks on the swatch once blended in, so don't let that put you off! As I know I said they are much more matte, and they are, but 'Lolly' does have a nice shimmer to it.

I really love this colour, perfect for when you have fake tanned or have a real tan!

Marshmallow: Coral Rose Pink

Despite thinking that this colour wouldn't be something I have worn maybe one in a blue moon. I have found that I am always reaching for this as part of my daily makeup routine! Surprisingly it adds a lovely pink hue to the cheeks and is really buildable.

The pigment in this blusher is incredible, I also used it in my Pop Art Makeup Post as an eyeshadow and when packed on to the eye it gives an incredible bright pink colour. Multiple uses!

MUA have put up on facebook a really handy 'Blush Colour Wheel' to explain which of their blushers are most suitable for every skin tone! And lucky I was right with my colour choices, but may have to try out 'Cupcake' and 'Candy Floss' as they are for pale/medium skin too.

I will be including Marshmallow or Lolly in my GIVEAWAY to celebrate my blog being 1 month old, so make sure you click HERE to enter for that and lots more MUA products!

Pop Art Inspired Makeup

As you are probably aware from my post last week, I went to the Roy Lichtenstein exhibition (read my post on it here) last Sunday and boy was I inspired to research and create a makeup look to go along with it!

Whilst researching, I came across the March 2013 Vogue Spread, which was actually inspired by Roy Lichtenstein! What a coincidence ey? Here are the pictures from the spread, that I used to inspire me.
  • Playing with colours
"Pop goes our hearts! In the March 2013 issue of Vogue Japan Beauty, Makeup Artist Andrew Gallimore pays homage to the legendary Roy Lichtenstein in a Pop Art-inspired spread featuring bold hues, signature halftone effects, along with stenciled makeup and whimsical props."
After days and days of messing around with makeup and hair and everything, I finally decided to do this look on my younger sister, Lauren, as it was much easier to do whilst looking at it - without one eye closed! I decided on two looks, the first very pop arty with aspects of many of the pictures and the second more wearable with dramatic eyes and 60's hair.

For both looks I started with the same base:
  • MUA Primer.
  • Maybelline FitMe foundation in 115, [applied with a stippling brush].
  • Maybelline FitMe powder in 125 (we have the same complexion) [applied with a powder brush].
  • MUA Bronzed perfection for contouring the cheekbones, side of the nose, jaw line and temples [applied with angled brush].
  • MUA blusher in marshmallow [applied with blush brush].

I started off this look by brushing up Lauren's hair into a high ponytail and hair spraying all the fly-a-way hairs back into place.

I then took my MUA glitter eyeliner in Shade 5 and drew in the crease and winged it out near the the end of her eyebrow. Also lined under her eye the outer corner and also winged that out and up. Along the bottom lash line, I then drew three lines down from her lash line to create 'false lashes' to look more pop-arty. After allowing that to dry, I placed a matte white eye shadow all over the lid and in between the two wings to define them and my MUA highlighter in the inner corners, on the brow bone and cheek bone. To finish off the eye, I lined the top water line with black eyeliner and added mascara.

To create this face of pop art style dots, I simply took a dusky coral highly pigmented eye shadow and worked it from the temple all the way down to her chin. I then blended this, so there would be no harsh edges. For the dots I then took my MUA intense colour eye liner in snow white and drew spots in columns all the way down her face. To remove the harshness of this, I then took the same brush I used to blend the face and brushed it across the dots. This also helped to keep them in place.

Finally, I took a deep redish/pink lipstick, to contrast with the blue of the eyeliner, and applied it.
And here is the finished look!

Obviously the eyes are the main point of this look, as it is a lot more understated - than the last anyway! I first applied my eye primer, to ensure the colours would be at there best, all the way up to the eyebrow. After this I took my brightest pink eye shadow and patted onto the eyelid, all the way up to the crease, and blended the edges. Once I had the shape I needed, I then applied a bright purple from the crease line all the way up to the brow. On top of the purple I used my white eyeliner to create the look of false white lashes! To finish off the shadow, I took a super bright turquoise blue and placed it under the bottom lash line an joined it to the edge of the purple shadow. Inside the bottom water line, I took that same white eyeliner and ran along the whole of it to make her eyes look bigger. As with all that heavy eye shadow I didn't want to make her eyes look small and peaky. To finish this I added some mascara and the eyes are complete!

For the lips I just used my Barry M lipstick in 54, which is a bright orange.

I wanted to go for a sixties hair style, as that was the time of Pop Art and such. I started by splitting the hair into two hairs - lower and upper. I then back combed the upper half at the roots but leaving the fringe out. After this I twisted all the upper hair together at the back and pushed it up, to create the volume at the back, and clipped it. Then taking my curling want I loosely curled all the end of the hair and secured the fringe in place!
And VOLIA, complete!

I hope you enjoyed reading/looking at this post, as I had so much fun creating it!
